March 26 - Area residents got the worst news possible Thursday: The Red River could reach a record 42 or 43 feet by the weekend. And the water might stay that high for seven days.
Never before had anyone seen a flood of such magnitude.
Both Fargo and Moorhead urged evacuations for several neighborhoods, and in an unprecedented move, patients were evacuated from all Fargo MeritCare hospitals as a precaution.
Residents throughout the area braced for the possibility of more evacuations.
But Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker wasn't giving up.
