FARGO - Overland flooding has forced a dozen roads and a bridge to close in Cass County, and officials urge motorists to use caution when traveling this spring during the flood.
"We saw what happened in Richland County and we want to make sure that doesn't happen in Cass County," Administrator Bonnie Johnson said, referring to three men who needed rescue after driving into rushing overland flooding.
Sandbag levees are being built in county neighborhoods, and County Engineer Keith Berndt said contractors are building earthen levees to protect homes in the Chrisan, Forest River and Round Hill areas south of Fargo.
The county has both its emergency operations center and tactical operations centers open for residents needing help.
The county has deployed about 400,000 sandbags and officials said they're pleased with the volunteer efforts in neighborhoods building levees.
