Former state psychologist in ND sentenced to seven years for child pornography

FARGO - Joseph Belanger, a former state psychologist who once evaluated sex offenders, was sentenced today to seven years in prison for viewing child pornography.

FARGO - Joseph Belanger, a former state psychologist who once evaluated sex offenders, was sentenced today to seven years in prison for viewing child pornography.

Belanger, 61, had more than 3,000 images of child pornography on computers in his home and office at the State Hospital in Jamestown.

Prosecutors said some of the images and videos depicted violent sexual abuse of children, and a 17-year-old girl who was one of the victims in the films said in a statement that she continues to be tormented knowing the films are viewed around the world.

Belanger, who earlier said he became addicted to child pornography after viewing the materials in a professional capacity, made no statement when sentenced in U.S. District Court.
