Thirty-nine grants worth more than $20,000 were given to Fargo teachers and schools in the latest round of funding from the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation.

Thirty-nine grants worth more than $20,000 were given to Fargo teachers and schools in the latest round of funding from the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation.

Some of the projects funded are:

- Specialized Legos that allow gifted students at Washington and McKinley elementary schools to build a programmable robot.

- "Toobaloos," a phone-like device allows first-graders to hear themselves clearly while speaking softly into it. Its use helps new readers improve their reading rates, phrasing and expression.

- Career Day at Fargo South High.

- Fargo North High students who don't have access to other support resources will work with tutors from North Dakota State University.

The foundation has awarded 390 grants totaling more than $200,000 since 2000.
