GRAND FORKS - Traffic fines fell in Grand Forks on Monday night after the City Council voted to align the city's fine schedule with that of the state.
Police officers have been handing out the lower fines since March and the council's action officially enshrines this in city law.
The state fines are substantially lower than city fines, and city leaders claim this would make it harder for them to make drivers slow down. They've said they plan to lobby the Legislature to give them the authority to levy different fines than the state.
