Two federal grants have been awarded to help low-income families in Fargo rent or purchase a home.

A grant for $789,140 was made available through the Community Development Block Grant program, to providing affordable housing for low and moderate-income persons.

A second for $568,961 was made available through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which helps provide affordable housing to low-income families through grants to state and local governments.

The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with funds appropriated by Congress, and announced in a joint news release from Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and Rep. Earl Pomeroy.
