The commander of the North Dakota National Guard says it is the wrong time to propose cuts in Army and Air Guard forces.
Maj. Gen. Michael Haugen said the Defense Department is looking to find billions of dollars in savings by reducing the size of both the Army and the Air Guard, after failing to get the savings it sought from the latest round of military base closings and realignments.
"They're now just going to do BRAC by another name and look for savings through the budgetary process," Haugen said.
