Halliburton proposes railroad depot in southwest North Dakota

RICHARDTON, N.D. -- Halliburton has proposed developing a railroad depot in southwest North Dakota to receive shipments of sand for use in hydraulic fracturing in the region's oilfields.

RICHARDTON, N.D. -- Halliburton has proposed developing a railroad depot in southwest North Dakota to receive shipments of sand for use in hydraulic fracturing in the region's oilfields.

Richardton city commissioners unanimously agreed Monday to allow annexation of nearly 80 acres of land south of the railroad for the fracking sand depot.

If completed, the project is expected to bring several dozen permanent jobs to the area, Frank Kirschenheiter, president of the city commission, said after the meeting.

"Now, it would also bring some increased truck traffic to the area because of the site, so we've been talking to Halliburton about how to minimize the impact on residents," Kirschenheiter said.

An Oct. 8 hearing will provide more information to the public and take comments.

Patrick Hope, city attorney, said notices can now be sent to any property owners who would be impacted by the annexation.
