HALSTAD, Minn. -- A 33-year-old man involved in an early morning snowmobile accident Thursday died at the scene.

Authorities are not sure if Paul Anderson of Halstad died of exposure or of his injuries, said Deputy Bill Bennett of the Norman County Sheriff's Department.

The accident was reported about 6 a.m. Thursday at 235th Avenue, along the south end of Halstad's city limits, Bennett said.

Anderson was traveling alone on the dike that runs near the city. While going around the corner, his snowmobile launched off the dike, Bennett said. The weather conditions at the time included blowing snow.

The accident likely happened a few hours before it was reported by a resident who lives near the dike, Bennett said.
