Harwood man who hit police officer sentenced to jail

After pleading guilty to a felony assault charge for punching a police officer in the mouth in November, a Harwood, N.D., man was sentenced to 45 days in jail Monday in Cass County District Court.

After pleading guilty to a felony assault charge for punching a police officer in the mouth in November, a Harwood, N.D., man was sentenced to 45 days in jail Monday in Cass County District Court.

Brandon Klevgaard will also serve 18 months of probation after his release and will be evaluated for substance abuse dependency, said Reid Brady, an assistant Cass County state's attorney.

Klevgaard, who was 22 when the incident happened on Nov. 20, will also serve a 45-day jail sentence at the same time for a misdemeanor charge of preventing arrest. He pleaded guilty to that offense.

Police alleged Klevgaard hit an officer in the mouth with a closed fist as he was being arrested following a report of a reckless pickup truck driver who hit a pole in the 4300 block of Ninth Avenue South.
