FARGO — Mental health hotline FirstLink is scheduled to offer a suicide prevention workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 and 18 in Fargo.
The workshop, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, “teaches effective suicide intervention skills while helping to build suicide prevention networks in the community,” a news release stated.
The program is in partnership with North Dakota State University Extension.
By attending the workshop, participants will be able to better:
Dispel myths regarding suicide
Identify people who have suicidal thoughts
Understand how beliefs and attitudes influence suicide interventions
Be direct and comfortable with suicidal situations
Understand the person at risk’s story and recognize turning points
Conduct a safety assessment and develop a plan to keep the person at risk safe
Build resource networks for at-risk individuals
The cost to attend the workshop is $25 and pre-registration is required. Participants must attend both days.
