FARGO — At Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo on Thursday, Sept. 23, the local Medals for Mettle chapter awarded special Fargo Marathon medals to kids who are going through a medical crisis.

With the Fargo Marathon's Youth Run taking place Thursday night, the marathon and the Medals for Mettle Group thought it was important to include the area's children who are unable to run because they are battling cancer or other diseases at the children's hospital.

Runners from all over the world contribute marathon race medals so the group can hand them out to sick children around the globe.

"(It's) just a reminder that everyone is running their own marathon themselves, and so whether they wanted to take part in the event, they were still able to be here today in honor of it," said Becky Browning, child life manager for Sanford Children's Hospital Fargo.
