FARGO - Relief from Tuesday's high heat across the Red River Valley should be felt today.
Temperatures soared into the high 90s across much of the Red River Valley with Fargo reaching 96 degrees at the Hector International Airport, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.
The temperature did not break the 104 degree record high for Tuesday set in 1976.
Temps were even hotter in Jamestown, which reached 101, and Bismarck, which simmered at 102 degrees.
The average temperature for this time of year in Fargo is about 81, said Tom Grasenauer, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Temperatures today are expected to hover in the mid to low 80s, Grasenauer said.
A cold front was moving across North Dakota and Minnesota Tuesday night, bringing in cooler air, he said.
While the temperatures will not rise to Tuesday's level, this area will see nearly 90-degree temps and dry days over the weekend, the weather service said.
Tuesday's heat wave came on the heels of a cool week last week when temperatures fell at night to the 40s. And while temperatures have not been consistent this August, a lack of rain has been a pattern for the month.
So far this month, Fargo has received 0.25 inch of rain.
"The normal rainfall for Fargo in August is 2.56 inches," Grasenauer said. "But August can vary like that. Typically our wettest months are June and early July."
