Herbert T Geving

Herbert T Geving, 77, Parshall Rancher, Businessman, North Dakota Politician, and above all a loving father and brother died at Sanford Medical Center Palliative Care Unit in Fargo on April 23, 2011, following a long time battle with Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's.

Herb was born August 14, 1933 in Parshall to Herbert and Charlotte Geving. He was a proud, full-blooded Norwegian, and spent the majority of his life on the farm land his family homesteaded in 1913. Herb took over the farming operation following the death of his father in 1950.He attended grade and high school in Parshall, and also attended NDSU in Fargo.

Herb started serving his community early in his life. He received numerous awards and accolades for his work including North Dakota Jaycee Young Man of the Year (1963). While a member of the Parshall Jaycees, Herb served in many leadership positions, including President. He went on to be a North Dakota JCI (Junior Chamber International) Senator and Junior Chamber International Ambassador to Central America. Herb continued his service to North Dakota and his community by serving as a member of the North Dakota Senate. He organized and led the building of the Paul Broste Rock Museum in Parshall and served as President of the Board. He was a member of First Lutheran Church serving in many capacities including President of the Council. He was instrumental in the organizing and building of the Parshall Rock View Good Samaritan Nursing Home where he resided from June 2009 until its closing in March 2011.

He was an entrepreneur who ran Geving Sanitation for over 30 years. His childhood dream to be an architect was fulfilled in many of his projects including his beloved home, they started with a pen and paper and Herb made them a reality. Herb was known for his generosity to his community, friends and family. He will forever be remembered for his jolly sense of humor and warm smile.

Herb is survived by: his children, John Herbert Geving (Amanda) of Minot, Nicole Geving of Phoenix, AZ, Rae Humphreys (Randy), Michael Colussy (Katie) and Christian Colussy, all of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jamie, Dexter, Owen, Isaac, Sophia, Olivia, Magdalene, and McKenna; his loyal and loving sisters, Darlene Moland (Dave) of Denver, CO and Cheryl Smith (Lloyd) of Fargo; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ronald "Ron" Geving and LeRoy "Lee" Geving.

Memorial Service: Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Parshall. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for a fellowship gathering at the church immediately following the service. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor - New York, NY 10001
