Hilding Hagen

Hilding Hagen, 75, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Thursday, July 10, 2003. Hilding, son of Rev. Melvin Hagen and Olga (Galstad) Hagen, was born September 19, 1927, in Fargo, ND. He attended elementary school in Shelly, MN, and high school in Climax, MN....

Hilding Hagen, 75, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Thursday, July 10, 2003.

Hilding, son of Rev. Melvin Hagen and Olga (Galstad) Hagen, was born September 19, 1927, in Fargo, ND. He attended elementary school in Shelly, MN, and high school in Climax, MN. He graduated from Concordia College in 1949. He married Helen Wambheim Hagen on June 4, 1950.

Hilding served the Red River Valley Council as a District Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America for four and a half years. He then started his career in the life and health insurance business. He was a member of the Housing and Development Authority, a member and past director of the Moorhead Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Clay County Republican Party, and a Clay County Commissioner in the Fifth District for eight years. He was a member of C-400 and a charter member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Hilding lived every day to its fullest. He loved sports, was an avid tennis player and especially treasured his time at the lake.

Hilding is survived by his three daughters, Mary (Glen) Follett, Thief River Falls, MN, Jan (Rod) Larson, Minneapolis, MN, Barb (Rolf) Christiansen, Hawley, MN; two brothers, David (Alice) Hagen, Bad Medicine Lake, Ponsford, MN, James (Janice) Hagen, Stewartville, MN; one sister, Faith (Ken) Johnson, Reno, NV; a brother-in-law, Jerome Jevning, Long Lost Lake, Bagley, MN; six grandchildren, Charley and Laura Follett, Anna (Kyle) Hettenbaugh and Sally Larson, Scott and David Nimlos. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Solveig Jevning, and a brother, Richard Hagen.

A memorial service was held at Fair Hills Resort, Pelican Lake on July 19, 2003.
