Hoeven issues executive order to aid rural crews

North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven issued an executive order Saturday, waiving service hour and weight restrictions for non-divisible loads for commercial truck drivers for at least the next week.

North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven issued an executive order Saturday, waiving service hour and weight restrictions for non-divisible loads for commercial truck drivers for at least the next week.

The order is meant to help carriers delivering supplies to rural electric cooperative and public utility crews. The crews are working to repair power lines and transmission towers that were damaged during a severe spring storm that struck Friday in south central and central North Dakota.

All road safety and vehicle compliance regulations still apply and will be fully enforced.

As of Saturday afternoon, the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services reported up to 4,000 polls and about 24 transmission towers downed. Between 4,000 and 5,000 customers remain without power.

The North Dakota Civil Air Patrol and National Guard also are assisting in the recovery and repair efforts.
