Ballots from the Horace mayor's race will be recounted this week, as required by North Dakota law, Cass County Auditor Michael Montplaisir said Monday.
In the first count of the ballots, John Goerger defeated Mayor Perry Ronning 144-143.
A recount is required when the margin of victory is .5 percent of the total votes the winner receives.
Although 0.5 percent of 144 is less than one vote, the county rounds up, Montplaisir said.
The recount will likely be done Wednesday or Thursday, Montplaisir said.
