House fire displaces rural Christine family

Fire destroyed a rural Christine, N.D., family's home Saturday night.

Scott and Lisa Skjefte were away for the weekend when an electrical fire started in their garage, Richland County Emergency Manager Brett Lambrecht said.

Firefighters from the Christine, Abercrombie, N.D., and Wolverton, Minn., departments responded after neighbors reported the fire about 9:30 p.m.

The house was fully engulfed, Lambrecht said.

They were on the scene, a little less than three miles northeast of Christine, until about

2 a.m. Sunday.

The house is a total loss.

"About half the house is standing," Lambrecht said.

The Skjeftes and their two children are staying with relatives, Lambrecht said.

The Minn-Kota Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided emergency food and clothing.
