MANKATO, Minn. - The Independence Party of Minnesota's annual convention is Saturday in the Wiecking Auditorium on the campus of Minnesota State University Mankato.
The convention agenda includes approving the party platform for the 2006 campaign year, electing new state party officers, and setting plans and procedures for the 2006 campaign.
Candidates for next year's election will be present. They include: U.S. Senate candidates Robert Fitzgerald of Rothsay, James Haviland of Thief River Falls and Michael Julien of Pine River; and gubernatorial candidate Peter Hutchinson of Minneapolis. The convention keynote speech will be given by Tim Penny, former U.S. congressman from the 1st District and former gubernatorial candidate. Jack Uldrich, former party chairman and former U.S. Senate candidate, will also address the convention.
No endorsement of candidates for next year will take place. The convention will consider rules for when and how candidates will be endorsed.
