FARGO-A just-released survey lists Fargo as just the 8th-safest city in the state. Bismarck is No. 1 and West Fargo is No. 2. The survey by the National Council for Home Safety and Security used violent crimes and property crimes to rank cities.

So perhaps it's no surprise that a local security company says there's so much demand for surveillance and alarm systems, they're always scrambling to hire more people. More and more people in the metro area want security cameras in their homes or businesses.

"People don't want to be a victim so they're more vigilant," said Corey English of Laser Systems.

English needs more people on his team to install security systems. He installs 25 percent more alarms now than just two years ago, he said.

"I think that there maybe is a perception that there is crime on the rise, property crime," said English.

Laser systems say most people who install alarms are in newer homes and about a third of installations are in pre-existing ones.

Starting Wednesday, April 12, Key Contracting, a West Fargo construction company, will have a watchman to keep any unwanted "guests" away, a system Laser Systems installed.

"We've had theft occur in here and we're at the point where we've got cameras coming in. So we can see what's going in and out of here," said Tom Paschke of Key Contracting.
