Tonight's Johnny Holm concert is officially canceled.
The Broken Axe in Moorhead tried to negotiate a contract to host the show traditionally sponsored by North Dakota State University fraternity Theta Chi.
NDSU officials this week said Theta Chi could not sponsor the concert or any other campuswide events because of an alcohol-related violation.
Broken Axe owner Erik Kantrud, a former Theta Chi member, said he wanted to help the fraternity recoup some of its costs by buying out the contract with Johnny Holm's management company.
But Kantrud said the Broken Axe is unable to host the event tonight because the bar is closed today as penalty for an alcohol compliance violation that occurred July 21.

Moorhead officials also had concerns about hosting a large event on such short notice, Kantrud said.
The Johnny Holm concert, a back-to-school tradition for more than 20 years at NDSU, typically attracts 3,000 to 4,000 students.
Theta Chi will still have to pay $6,000 for the concert even if it doesn't go on, fraternity president Rick Wilson said.
"It's going to hurt us financially," Wilson said. "That's a lot of money for a student organization."
