Joseph H. Weber, 89, Casselton, ND, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Joseph Henry Weber was born November 12, 1913, at Sykeston, ND, to William and Elizabeth (Schaak) Weber. He attended schools in Sykeston, Wilton and Killdeer, ND. He started his grocery career in 1931 as a clerk in Killdeer and later was employed by the E. E. Anderson Grocery in Dickinson, ND, and the Sawyer stores in Glendive and Sidney, MT. In 1938, he began his career with the Red Owl stores in Lemon, SD. He went on to manage stores in Bismarck, Fargo and Beach, ND, as well as Aberdeen, SD. His Red Owl career encompassed 25 years corporate and 25 years as an independent retailer in Casselton. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served three years in the European Theatre of war. On January 16, 1946, he married Lucille Rose Kukowski at Ft. Snelling, MN, and they returned to Casselton to make their home.
Joe was past president of the Casselton Community Club, a 50-year member of the VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus and served on the Board of Directors of the Casselton Veterans Club.
Joseph is survived by his wife Lucille; two sons, Thomas (Virgene), Travelers Rest, SC, Robert (Diane), Casselton; five grandchildren, Charles, Tracie, Erin, Sara and Joseph; two sisters, Frances (Harold) Krank, Albany, OR and Margaret Oster, Bismarck, ND.
Visitation: Sunday, July 27, 2003, from 6 to 7 in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Casselton, with a prayer service at 7.
Funeral: Monday, July 28, 2003, at 10 in St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Burial: St. Leo's Cemetery.
