A man convicted of trying to kill his estranged wife in West Fargo appeared Friday in Clay County District Court on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Last year, Gregory Kaiser, 40, was sentenced to 18 years in a North Dakota prison for slashing the throat of his estranged wife. He pleaded guilty in Cass County to an attempted murder charge in the attack.
His appearance in a Minnesota courtroom Friday stems from a report by a woman who told police that Kaiser sexually assaulted her in his Glyndon home May 16, 2002.
Clay County court records say the victim told police in an interview four days later that Kaiser bound her with duct tape and placed tape over her mouth during the assault, which occurred in the bedroom of Kaiser's house.
The woman said after the attack she noticed a knife lying under a pillow.

Cass County court records say Kaiser used a knife to slash the throat of his estranged wife in West Fargo on June 6, 2002. Authorities later arrested Kaiser after police in Florida found him sleeping in a car outside a restaurant near Daytona Beach one month later.
On Thursday, Kaiser was transported from the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck to the Clay County Jail, where he is being held without bail pending the outcome of the sexual assault case.
Clay County prosecutors delayed moving forward with court hearings in the case until the North Dakota charges were resolved, Clay County Attorney Lisa Borgen said Friday.
The maximum penalty for the charge is 30 years in prison.
