FARGO - A benefit barbecue lunch, bake sale and silent auction for Katie Hartje VanZanten is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 here at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2010 Elm St.
VanZanten was diagnosed with a brain tumor in November 2012 and has since had surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and received radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Due to her illness, she has limited vision and can't work. Proceeds will help defray her medical and other expenses.
Cash or check donations are also being accepted to the Katie VanZanten Benefit Fund at Bell State Bank & Trust, 2501 South University Drive in Fargo.
