Kelley is UND presidential search committee's only finalist

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota presidential search committee voted Monday to forward the name of one candidate - Robert Kelley - to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota presidential search committee voted Monday to forward the name of one candidate - Robert Kelley - to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education.

Kelley is the only semifinalist candidate to receive at least 12 of the 16 committee votes necessary to be forwarded to the state board. Kelley received 15 votes today.

The search committee was instructed to forward three or more finalists to the state board, but the committee decided at its last meeting to only forward candidates that won the support of three quarters of the committee.

Three state board members who attended today's meeting said they were inclined to interview Kelley and vote up or down on his presidency rather than beginning the search process again.

The other semifinalists included two from UND: Dennis Elbert, dean of the UND College of Business and Public Administration; and Bruce Smith, dean of the UND aerospace school.
