Mr. Prickles is hard to get close to because he is a porcupine. But his prickly outside isn't a representation of his sweet and fun-loving inside.
When the other woodland creatures turn him away and refuse to hang out with him, however, he begins to feel prickly and even be mean to get back at them. He is still envious of them, even after he meets another porcupine, Miss Pointypants.
The couple finally decide to do their own thing and learn to not worry about what the others are doing - they have fun on their own.
A great lesson for young children - there's always going to be someone who doesn't get you, but there's always someone out there who loves you - just the way you are.
The illustrations are both cute and moody at the same time, greatly adding to the impact of the story.
Pick up this lovely love story and help your kid learn to love themselves.
