Lisbon burns house to place clay levees

LISBON, N.D. - Lisbon Mayor Ross Cole said the city was out of options when it burned a house Wednesday to lay clay dikes to protect the city from rising water from the Sheyenne River.

LISBON, N.D. - Lisbon Mayor Ross Cole said the city was out of options when it burned a house Wednesday to lay clay dikes to protect the city from rising water from the Sheyenne River.

Lisbon bought out the property after last year's record flooding along the Sheyenne, and received possession of the house on Wednesday, Cole said.

Firefighters controlled the burn of the house, which was heavily damaged in the 2009 flood, and clay levees are up in its place, Cole said.
