Live cam: Watch the demolition of downtown Fargo's Ball Building

FARGO - The Ball building is fated to meet the wrecking ball and its demolition will mark the first time Doug Burgum's preservation-minded Kilbourne Group has torn down one of its properties.

FARGO - The Ball building is fated to meet the wrecking ball and its demolition will mark the first time Doug Burgum's preservation-minded Kilbourne Group has torn down one of its properties.

The downtown building, at 63 5th St. N., for many years housed Doyle's Yellow Checker Cab. In recent years, it was used as an indoor parking facility.

But structural problems meant the upper level has been unsafe to use, and Kilbourne concluded the best course is to demolish the building and use the site for redevelopment of the block, said Mike Allmendinger, Kilbourne's general manager.

The demolition is slated to start this week and conclude Feb. 15. By next summer, the lot will become a temporary parking lot, with space for 40 to 50 cars, he said. But Kilbourne ultimately plans to redevelop the site.
