The funeral for Lloyd D. Gerdes of Moorhead, MN, will be held at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead on Friday, August 1, 2003, at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Moorhead. Lloyd died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Fargo.

Lloyd was born July 6, 1927, in Fargo, ND, the son of George and Lucie (Sauvageau) Gerdes. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1945. He then enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific. Following his discharge, he returned to Fargo and worked with his father in the family business, Gerdes Heating, for four years. On September 2, 1950, he married Jane Leach in St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. The couple moved to Mankato, MN, and later Minneapolis, MN, where he was a sheetmetal worker. After the death of his father in 1952, Lloyd returned to Fargo to run the family business until 1955. He then worked for Automatic Heating, Dakota Plumbing and Heating and Twin City Heating. He also worked as a Union pipefitter throughout the area until he retired in 1992.

Lloyd had been an active member of St. Francis De Sales church for the past 50 years. He had been involved in teaching religious education, bible studies, the Cursillo movement, taking Communion to shut-ins and delivering meals on wheels. Lloyd sang with the Silver Follies and most recently visited retirement homes performing with the Depot Singers. In addition, Lloyd enjoyed gardening and biking and was an avid reader. He was never at a loss for words and enjoyed sharing a variety of jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, Moorhead; five sons, Timothy (Barbara), Minneapolis, Thomas, Andover, MN, Michael, Burnsville, MN, John (Sharon), Moorhead, David, Fargo; three daughters, Claudia Gerdes, Des Moines, IA, Mary (Allan) Broberg, Fargo, and Julie (John) Meaux, Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; and two sisters, Marguerite (Ray) Krause, Columbus, OH and Irene Heck, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Cindy.
