Any properly installed car seat sold in stores today is safe to use, according to a local coalition devoted to the safety of children.

"There's no need to panic as long as the car seat is less than six years old and used correctly," said Bobbi Paper, coordinator for Safe Kids Fargo Moorhead.

The coalition has received dozens of calls from con-cerned parents since Consumer Reports released new recommendations on infant car seats last week. Based on test results, it only recommended two - the Baby Trend Flex-Loc and the Graco SnugRide with EPS.

Every car seat on the mar-ket today has passed rigorous crash tests required by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Paper said.

"For the most part, what people are using is fine," she said.
