Lois Arlene (Elmes) Hess, 74, longtime Moorhead teacher, died June 23, 2003, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska, after a year long illness. Daughter of Dr. Joseph Elmes and Etta Elmes of Eagle Bend, MN, she was born on May 19, 1929.

Lois began her teaching career in 1947 in a one room school house outside of Eagle Bend. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Moorhead State College. She taught in West Fargo, and at George Washington Elementary School in Moorhead, for 22 years. She moved to Anchorage in 1979 to be near her grandchildren. She continued to teach and retired from the Anchorage School District in 1990.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Clinton Hess and her 2nd husband, Jake Roetman.

She is survived by her son, Todd Hess; daughter-in-law, Susan (Saxman) Hess; grandchildren, Clinton Hess, Sarah Hess, and Joseph Hess of Anchorage, AK; and sister, Vida Van Gundy of Clarissa, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services and interment were in Eagle Bend, MN, on July 1, 2003.
