The Main Avenue reconstruction project in Fargo will reach a milestone this morning when all lanes are opened from 40th to 45th streets.
Joe Peyerl, project engineer for the North Dakota Department of Transportation, credited Strata Corp. of West Fargo and its crews for opening the road three weeks ahead of schedule.
The additional lanes should alleviate the traffic congestion motorists have endured since the project began in March, he said.
The remainder of the Main Avenue project, from 40th to 23rd streets, should be finished by Oct. 23 as scheduled, Peyerl said.
The 2-mile-long, $32 million project is the most expensive single-season road project in the department's history.
