CROOKSTON, Minn. -- A 24-year-old Crookston man remained in jail Thursday night in connection with a shooting incident Wednesday authorities believe is linked to a number of burglaries.
The Polk County Sheriff's Department said Mitchell D. Coauette was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The arrest came after the Sheriff's Department received reports of two burglaries.
In the first incident, a homeowner called authorities about 11 a.m. Wednesday to report a confrontation with an intruder.
In that case, in which no one was hurt, the suspect fled by the time deputies reached the home.

About noon Wednesday, the Sheriff's Department received a second call regarding a burglary and shots being fired at another residential location.
Sheriff Mark LeTexier said no one was in the residence at the time and no one was injured.
He said based on information provided by witnesses, a vehicle was stopped on the edge of Crookston about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday and Coauette was taken into custody.
LeTexier said authorities recovered a rifle and spent shell casings believed to have been used in the shooting.
He said the Sheriff's Department received several other calls Wednesday regarding burglaries around the county. Property believed to have been taken in at least one incident has been recovered, LeTexier said.
The Polk County Attorney's Office said Coauette will likely be charged today in Polk County District Court with a number of counts, including burglary and criminal damage to property.
