VALLEY CITY, N.D. - A man facing burglary charges in two counties found himself quickly surrounded by lawmen after a pharmacy break-in and shot himself in the leg, Barnes County authorities said.

Josh Ellis, 23, of LaMoure, was hospitalized Friday in Fargo and was charged with burglary, a Class B felony. If convicted on the Barnes County charge, prosecutors said, he could be sentenced to at least four years in prison because he used a firearm.

Ellis also was charged in LaMoure County on Friday with breaking into his father's home and stealing a gun, and with stealing a credit card from his grandmother, State's Attorney Dan Narum said.

He had been on probation for a burglary conviction stemming from a 2002 break-in at a LaMoure pharmacy.
