One of two men charged Wednesday in connection with rural burglaries in Clay County told authorities he committed the crimes because it gave him a rush, court documents say.
David Leo Erickson and Shaun Patrick Carlson, both 20, are each charged with eight counts of burglary in Clay County District Court.
Erickson's counts are in the third degree, while Carlson's counts are all second-degree.
According to the documents:
A deputy working special duty Monday in an effort to solve a rash of burglaries came upon a suspicious vehicle parked near a rural Glyndon home.

The car was still warm, and the deputy could see two sets of footprints in the wet grass.
A police canine led officers to a pair of duffle bags containing tools, but no suspects could be found.
Later that same morning, the owner of the suspicious vehicle found by the deputy, identified in the court documents as Erickson, called authorities to report that his car had been stolen.
Officers went to the Glyndon home where Erickson and Carlson live and interviewed them.
The officers noticed both men had damp shoes.
The pair gave conflicting stories about the stolen car and in follow-up interviews both admitted to taking part in burglaries in Clay County and Norman County, the court documents state.
Erickson told investigators he got a rush committing the burglaries, the documents say.
The court documents link the pair to at least eight break-ins that occurred between mid-July and Sunday night.

The estimated value of tools and car equipment taken in one of the burglaries was $9,500.
