Fargo police are awaiting autopsy results for a man killed Friday night when a truck ran over him in downtown Fargo.
Police Sgt. Greg Lemke said the man was killed shortly after 11 p.m. Friday in a parking lot in the 1000 block of NP Avenue.
Lemke said witnesses reported seeing the man staggering down the street before walking behind a parked semi truck. The truck's driver had gone into the off-sale at The Nestor, 1001 NP Ave.; he came out of the off-sale after about five minutes, backed the truck up in the parking lot at Union Storage, apparently hitting the man, and drove off. The witnesses then saw the man and called police.
The man was dead at the scene, Lemke said.
The victim, a middle-aged white male, had no picture identification and was carrying Social Security cards in two names, Lemke said. "We're pretty sure we know who it is," but the body was sent to Bismarck for autopsy and his identify would not be released until results come back, he said. He is believed to have no permanent address, although he is not a transient, Lemke said.

Police still were looking for the truck and driver Saturday afternoon.
The truck had a white tractor pulling a white, grain-style trailer. There was no writing on the side of the truck and witnesses did not get a license number.
The driver was a white male with white hair, about 50 years old, wearing a dark shirt, jeans and a hat.
Lemke said no charges against the driver are being planned, but police want to interview him.
Police did not release the names of the witnesses.
