Man facing felony drug charges after traffic stop

A man stopped Monday morning in Fargo for seat belt enforcement instead faces a number of felony charges, including having a mobile methamphetamine lab in his car, Fargo police said.

A man stopped Monday morning in Fargo for seat belt enforcement instead faces a number of felony charges, including having a mobile methamphetamine lab in his car, Fargo police said.

Police said David T. McRackin Jr., 29, no permanent address, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of 10th Street and Fifth Avenue South.

A Fargo police officer working overtime on seat belt enforcement stopped McRackin for speeding and discovered an outstanding Cass County warrant on him.

The officer then looked in the car and saw what appeared to be the makings of a methamphetamine lab in the back seat.

While the officer was looking in his car, McRackin, who had been placed in the squad car, kicked out a window, climbed out and went after the officer, tearing his shirt, scratching his face and blackening his eye. An off-duty Cass County deputy drove by the scene, stopped and helped the officer subdue McRackin.

Police said McRackin was arrested for attempted manufacture of a controlled substance; felony possession of drug paraphernalia; assault on a police officer; criminal mischief; giving false information to law enforcement; driving without liability insurance; driving without a license; and the outstanding warrant.

The case was sent to the Cass County state's attorney's office for review Monday.

No formal charges have been filed. A court date for McRackin's initial appearance will be scheduled after charges are filed.
