A man who escaped from the Minnesota State Patrol Saturday didn't stay on the loose for long.

The man convinced the trooper to stop for a bathroom break about 3:10 p.m. on Otter Tail County Road 14 near Otter Tail, according to the patrol. The man, who was wearing handcuffs, fled when the trooper let him out of the car.

Authorities found the man hiding in a swampy area about 4:20 p.m. He'd managed to get the handcuffs off, the patrol said.

The man is being held in the Clay County Jail.

The patrol said that's where he originally was headed because he'd been arrested on a Clay County warrant.
