Man hit in head with hammer released from hospital; police arrest acquaintance for striking him

MOORHEAD - Authorities arrested a 37-year-old man early today for allegedly striking another man in the head with a hammer.

Moorhead police and the Clay County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of an assault at 12:36 a.m. at 1224 15th Ave. N. in Moorhead, Lt. Jim Nielsen said in a news release.

The victim, Clarence Collins, 38, of Moorhead, had a laceration to his scalp. He was taken by F-M Ambulance to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police arrested Cornelius Hollis, 37, of Moorhead, at the scene. He is being held in the Clay County Jail pending a charge of felony assault.
