A 63-year-old man from South Dakota admitted on Monday in Cass County District Court to attempting to arrange to meet a 14-year-old girl to have sex.
Michael John Novotny of Rosholt was accused of setting up the meeting in August with a Fargo police detective posing as the girl.
Novotny pleaded guilty to a charge of luring minors by computer, a Class B felony that carries a minimum prison term of one year upon conviction.
Sentencing will be done after a presentence investigation, said Reid Brady, an assistant Cass County state's attorney.
Novotny had exchanged texts with the detective he thought was a 14-year-old and had planned to meet her at a Burger King in Fargo, court records state.
