A 20-year-old Fargo man appeared Tuesday in district court on three separate charges of vandalizing the new Cass County Jail.

John Garang Manyok, 717 8th St. N., pleaded innocent in Cass County District Court to three misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief.

East Central District Judge John Irby set bail for Manyok at $10,000. Manyok's next court appearance is Feb. 18.

Court documents say Manyok broke three lights and lens covers between Nov. 3 and Nov. 7 in his cell and the jail's booking room.

On the last occasion, Manyok became upset after jail staff opened the food port to his cell and placed his food inside his cell. Staff denied his earlier request for a pencil and to make a phone call.

"Manyok throws tantrums when he does not get his own way," a jailer reported in one report.

If convicted, Manyok faces up to a year in prison on each charge.

Previously, he was arrested on three charges, including terrorizing and criminal mischief. Those charges are still pending.

Two other inmates face felony charges relating to jail vandalism. Peter Zephyrin, 23, of Valley City, faces three counts of criminal mischief and David Banton, 24, of Moorhead, is charged with terrorizing and two counts of criminal mischief.
