Man sentenced to life in prison for drug charges

FARGO - A Moorhead man was sentenced in federal court to life in prison Wednesday for dealing methamphetamines, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced Raul Tovar, 49, to life imprisonment. He was found guilty on Jan. 22, after a five-day trial, of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute in excess of 500 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine.

In December 2011, Moorhead police officers were investigating a drug trafficking organization in the Fargo-Moorhead area, according to the release.

Officers executed a search warrant at the AmericInn Lodge and Suites in Moorhead and arrested three people on felony drug charges. Further investigation revealed that those suspects were obtaining drugs from Tovar.
