Intruders assaulted and tied up a man before robbing a south Fargo apartment early Wednesday, police reported.

The victim untied himself and walked to nearby Bethany Homes, 201 S. University Drive, where police were called around 2:20 a.m., Police Lt. Tod Dahle said.

The victim told police someone came to his door in the 300 block of Eddy Court about 1:30 a.m. and asked for the victim's roommate, who wasn't home. The man left, but returned to see if he could hang out, Dahle said.

Several minutes later, a second man entered the apartment wearing a mask on the bottom part of his face and carrying a knife, Dahle said.

One or both men ordered the victim to lie on the floor and tied his hands behind his back and tied his feet together, Dahle said.

The victim was hit in the back of the head and kicked on the mouth, he said.

Dahle said a television and DVD player were taken from the apartment.

Police would not release the victim's name. The manager of the apartment building, Harlan Carlson, said the victim was a visitor and he didn't know the man's name.

The man told police he lived in the apartment with his roommate.

The victim's forehead was bruised and his lip was cut, but he didn't require medical attention, Dahle said.

He told police he didn't know the men and that they appeared to leave together.

Dahle said police do not believe the incident is connected to a home invasion last week near North Dakota State University because the descriptions of the suspects don't match.

In that incident, three or four masked men entered a house and cut two of the residents in an ensuing struggle.

They demanded money and took a digital camera and a cell phone.

One man has been arrested in the NDSU case. Higuens Cine, 22, of Fargo was charged last week with burglary, terrorizing and simple assault.
