TOWER CITY, N.D. - A Mayville man fleeing from state troopers ran out of gas Monday near here after leading authorities on a chase that lasted close to an hour and spanned two states, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
At 4:27 p.m. Monday, a Minnesota trooper began pursuing a 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck on Interstate 94. The chase continued into North Dakota, and the driver went north on Interstate 29 until heading west into rural Cass County on County Road 20, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.
Near Prosper, North Dakota troopers took over the pursuit as the driver headed west and north. At 5:22 p.m., the driver ran out of gas and fled on foot into a row of trees near 131st Avenue and 25th Street Southeast in Barnes County, northwest of Tower City, the patrol said.
Seven minutes later, officers arrested the driver, identified as 40-year-old David Schiebe, on felony charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine, as well as misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, fleeing a peace officer, unlawful ingestion of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Schiebe also had a North Dakota warrant for his arrest on a parole violation.
Schiebe, who had ingested a large amount of meth, was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health in Fargo, the patrol said. He was later booked into the Cass County Jail and was expected to appear in court Wednesday.
