Melford Harry Olson, 84, Valley City, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, in Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
Mr. Olson was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Litchville, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He moved to Marion, N.D., where he farmed. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. After his military discharge he moved to Valley City. On Nov. 23, 1947, he married Edna Sando. He worked for Russell-Miller Milling Co. and Valley City Public Works. On Aug. 30, 1974, he married Alice Bockness in Webster, S.D. He retired, and they lived in Valley City.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, Melford, Danny, both Fargo; three daughters, Janet (Dusty) Kracht, Pierre, S.D., Carol Johnson, Fargo, Candace Shipman, Kansas City, Mo.; seven stepsons, Terry Bockness, Donny (Kathy) Bockness, Miles City, Mont., Dale (Vaughn) Bockness, Bozeman, Mont., Gary Bockness, Greg Bockness, both Valley City, Scott (Lorretta) Bockness, Hardin, Mont., Jeff (Tammy) Bockness, Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Henry (Violet), Valley City, Donald (Lydia), LaMoure, N.D.; two sisters, Ardith Bruse, LaMoure, Louise (Les) Wicks, Valley City; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday from 1 to 7, with a prayer service at 7, in Oliver-Nathan Funeral Home, Valley City.
Funeral: Friday at 2 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City.
