Melvin E. Heaton

Melvin E. Heaton, 84, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Melvin, the son of Robert and Alice (Payne) Heaton Sr., was born in Fargo, ND, on March 23, 1919. He worked for the Civil Conservation Corps Camps during the depression. He married Nancy Lee Warner in 1941.

Melvin entered the U.S. Army on June 20, 1942. He served in the infantry as a Sargent and was awarded three bronze stars for Rome-Arno, south of France and Rhineland Campaigns. He was also awarded a Purple Heart and was entitled to wear the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. Melvin was a P.O.W. from September of 1944 to March 1945.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Judith Gilbreth, Frederick, OK; two brothers, Robert Heaton, WA; Art Heaton, TX; three sisters, Elizabeth Dean, ND; Gladys Cates, UT; Virginia Belle, MA; one grandchild, Jennifer Grice and two great-grandchildren, Jarod and Kalyn Grice.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, who died on November 14, 2002.

Funeral services: Friday, July 11, 2003, at 2:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Chapel, Fargo.

Visitation: Thursday, July 10, 2003, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
