Jacobs receives officer commission

Navy Ensign Shane P. Jacobs completed Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., and received his commission as a naval officer.

Jacobs is a 1993 graduate of Breckenridge (Minn.) Senior High School and joined the Navy in 2001.

Air National Guard makes promotions

The North Dakota Air National Guard, Fargo, has promoted the following officers:


Levi Heller, senior airman; Lee Teigen, senior airman; and Shawn Hewitt, technical sergeant.

Heller is a 2000 graduate of Kindred (N.D.) High School. He serves with the 119th Security Police and is employed by T. Larson Construction Inc., Fargo.

Teigen is a 2000 graduate of Central Cass High School, Casselton, N.D., and currently attends North Dakota State University. He joined the Air Guard in 2000 and serves with the 119th Maintenance Squadron as an aircraft fuel systems journeyman.

Hewitt is a graduate of Carrington (N.D.) High School and Valley City (N.D.) State University. He joined the Air Guard in 1999 and serves with the 119th Logistics Squadron as a vehicle operator. He is employed by Ideaone Telecom, Fargo.

Edgerly promoted

Carl D. Edgerly, Bismarck, N.D., has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Edgerly is chief of plans and programs division assigned to the 88th Regional Support Command at Fort Snelling, Minn.

He is a 1969 graduate of Fargo South High School and a 1976 graduate of University of Mary, Bismarck, N.D.


Navy officers return from deployment

The following navy officers recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf:

- Navy Seaman Todd A. Thompson, assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Hayler. He is a 1999 graduate of Pillager (Minn.) High School and the son of Kevette Thompson and Roger Thompson, both Perham, Minn.

- Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jason A. Reed, assigned to the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island. He is a 1979 graduate of Moorhead Senior High School and joined the Navy in 1991.

- Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian P. Runningen, serving aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan. He is a 1995 graduate of Fergus Falls (Minn.) Senior High School and joined the Navy in 1999.

Local youth graduate basic infantry training

The following army privates have graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.:

Ryan F. Froseth, 1996 Fargo South High graduate; Brady A. Hedstrom, 1996 Fargo South High graduate; and Cory L. Peterson, son of Bill Peterson, Moorhead.


Fear graduates from hospital corps school

Navy Hospitalman Apprentice Christopher R. Fear has graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill.

He is a 1999 graduate of Moorhead High School and joined the Navy in 2001.

Lepisto completes basic training

Marine Corps Pvt. Cory A. Lepisto has completed basic training at Marine

Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.

Lepisto is a 2001 graduate of Perham (Minn.) High School.

Monzon, Balken arrive for duty

Army Pvt. Victor M. Perlacia Monzon has arrived for duty at the Vilseck-Grafenwoehr Military Community in Germany.

Monzon is a 2001 graduate of Moorhead High School.

Air Force Capt. Shane M. Balkan has arrived for duty at RAF Mildenhall, England.

He is a 1991 graduate of Rothsay High School and a 1995 graduate of North Dakota State University.

Soldiers join 141st combat battalion

The following soldiers have joined the Headquarters Company of the 141st Engineer Combat Battalion in Valley City, N.D.:

Pvt. Steven Oftelie; Pvt. Matthew Derby; and Pvt. Ashley Enger.

- Oftelie is the son of Penny Olson, Sandborn, N.D., and is a senior at North Central High School.

- Derby is a junior at Hope-Page (N.D.) High School.

- Enger is a senior at Valley City High School and the daughter of Don and Bev Enger, Valley City.
