Minn. budget deal stays out of reach

ST. PAUL - Gov.

ST. PAUL - Gov. Tim Pawlenty is in Breezy Point, Minn., and Pequot Lakes, Minn., through tonight at the Governor's Fishing Opener, so he is not available for face-to-face negotiations over how to fix a $935 million state budget deficit.

However, House Democrats said legislative leaders could meet with Pawlenty tonight or following a Sunday afternoon event at the Capitol dealing with the state's 150th birthday.

If a deal isn't reached Sunday night, face-to-face talks could be difficult to schedule Monday, when Pawlenty is in Bemidji, Minn., in the morning and speaks in Twin Cities suburbs at midday and in the evening.

Negotiators have met several times during the past week and a half, but are at least $100 million apart on a budget deal.
