MOORHEAD - The Moorhead Police Department is reminding motorists that not buckling up could risk their lives and earn them a ticket during a statewide seat belt enforcement campaign.
The Click It or Ticket seat-belt patrols took to Minnesota's roads Friday and the extra enforcement will continue through Oct. 26.
The police department said over the past three years, 377 of the motorists who died in the state were not buckled. During the same time in Clay County, three unbelted motorists died and another four were seriously injured.
Minnesota requires all drivers and passengers to be buckled up or seated in a proper child restraint. Additionally, seat belts must be worn correctly and shoulder straps can't be tucked under an arm or behind the back.
