ST. PAUL.-The MNsure board of directors announced Tuesday the appointment of Peter Benner as board chairman replacing Brian Beutner.

Dr. Kathryn Duevel was elected to the role of vice chair, a position Benner previously had.

The board oversees the state’s health insurance program that is similar to the national Affordable Health Care program.

“MNsure has made tremendous strides, and though we have work ahead of us to make the consumer experience even better, I embrace the challenge and will devote my energy and my passion for affordable health care to my new role,” said Benner.
Both Benner and Duevel have served on the board since May of 2013.

The 2016 open enrollment period is scheduled to begin Nov. 1 and end Jan. 31, 2016. Low-income Minnesotans eligible for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare can enroll year round. As of May 2014, 95 percent of Minnesotans have health coverage-the highest percentage in state history.
